Total Stock vs Shelf Stock: A Simple Grocery Inventory Model
Total Stock tells you what the business records overall. Shelf Stock tells you what is currently placed on the selling shelf. They are related but not interchangeable.
Example: 100 Parle-G total, 20 on shelf
GroceryBilling shows Total Stock 100, On Shelf 20 and Available Off Shelf 80.
What a sale does
Sell 5 and Total becomes 95 while Shelf becomes 15. Sell another 15 and Total becomes 80 while Shelf reaches 0. Further sales reduce Total until it also reaches 0; checkout never stops.
What a purchase does
A purchase of 100 units adds 100 to Total Stock. Shelf Stock stays unchanged until the merchant refills or recounts the shelf.
What happens if Shelf exceeds Total
GroceryBilling asks the merchant to review the quantity. If the physical shelf observation is confirmed, Total Stock can be raised to at least the confirmed Shelf quantity rather than rejecting reality.
Make GroceryBilling part of your store without changing how you sell.
Start with normal billing. Turn on inventory, Shelf QR, Scan & Buy, online ordering, purchases and additional billing stations when they create value for your business.
